Inspiring schools!

March 1, 2020 By Cara Jenkinson Leave a Comment

Last week, school and university students met with MPs to call for 6 demands to government, including including climate change in teacher training, embedding climate change throughout the whole curriculum and all schools to be net zero by 2030.

At a smaller scale the Fortismere Climate Group – an inspiring group of students held an event to raise funds for water fountains, beehives and growing spaces at their school. MHSG was delighted to speak at the fundraiser, telling students, parents and staff about the solar panels we installed on the school’s science block last year, and the other work we are doing in Muswell Hill. The school’s climate group managed to raise over £1000 – amazing work.

On Friday Kate Hesketh, Joanna Sarri and Cara Jenkinson ran a workshop on climate change action with around 20 Heads, Deputy Heads and teachers from Muswell Hill and Highgate. It was a great opportunity to share best practice – we were impressed by how many schools were already running meat-free Mondays, recycling felt-tip pens, and limiting water waste. School pupils want their schools to act, and increasingly staff do too. We will be helping schools to reduce their emissions further over the next few months.
