Green Open Homes 2019

Muswell Hill Sustainability Group runs regular Green Open Homes: Character – Comfort – Low Carbon events.

BOOK YOUR VISITS

These feature free tours of local green homes to inspire your next home improvement project.

A variety of homes in Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Alexandra Park, Highgate and Tottenham are on show.  They include Edwardian villas,  a 1920s former London County Council property, a timber-framed 1980s house and the cob and straw eco building at the Meadow Orchard community garden.  Features include underfloor heating, an air source heat pump, rainwater harvesting and a green roof.

These properties will be open on Sunday 3rd November and Saturday 9th November 2019. Please book your tour in advance here.

Grosvenor Road N10  

Edwardian house (corner plot) with original features plus underfloor and ‘Sempatap’ internal wall insulation, ‘Magneglaze’ secondary glazing, woodburners, solar hot water and solar PV panels, low-energy bathroom fan, living wall and green roof.

Open Sunday 3rd and Saturday 9th November. Tours at 10am, 11.30am, 2pm, 3.30pm.

Yewtree Close N22 

Timber-framed detached 1980s house.  Rigid wall and roof insulation, air source heat pump for underfloor heating & hot water, 16 solar PV panels (4kW peak), instant water boiler (no kettle).

Open Sunday 3rd and Saturday 9th November. Tours at 11.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm.

Weir Hall Road N17 

1920s semi-detached house.  External, internal and underfloor insulation, triple glazing, air source heat pump, woodstove, solar PV panels.

Palace Gates Road N22 

Victorian semi-detached house.  Internal and external insulation.  Solar PV panels with 3kW storage battery.  Woodstove.

Bisham Gardens N6 

Detached three-storey early 20th Century property converted to residential use in the late 1920s.  Internal wall insulation, solar PV and solar thermal panels, sun-screening to prevent overheating in summer, double- and triple-glazing throughout.

Chester Road N19 

Victorian semi-detached house.  Internal wall insulation, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery, solar PV, solar water heating, sun pipe, woodstove.  NB  Adult visitors only please.

The Eco Building, Meadow Orchard, N8 

Circular timber frame, cob and straw building constructed using natural building methods and sustainably sourced or reclaimed materials.

Outram Road N22

Green roof fitted 2014 over new flat roof.  Uses Kemper liquid waterproofing system, planted with standard mixed sedum.  Solar panels.

Nelson Road N8

Top floor flat in a terraced house. Solar PV, Solar hot water, double-glazing, draught proofing, insulation and low-energy lighting.  Water butt and wormery for food growing in large pots.
