Want to invest with a clear conscience …? Find out what ESG criteria are …? Save money while saving the planet …? Make money while making a difference?
In a free evening of talks on ETHICAL FINANCE, Muswell Hill Sustainability Group (MHSG) look forward to welcoming guest speaker Rob Harrison (pictured right).
Rob is an ethical consumption consultant, founding editor of Ethical Consumer magazine, author of The Handbook of Ethical Purchasing, co-author of The Green Building Handbook and of Sage’s The Ethical Consumer; and an expert on ethical banking, investment funds and financial services.
He is also a consultant to numerous international consumer organisations and government departments, advising on CSR performances and developing world-leading ethical policies for them.
In short … he knows his stuff!
From Manchester, he will be live-streaming to a physical audience, and guiding them around the minefield of balancing ethical with financial considerations, and the associate Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) metrics. He will then open the floor for a Q&A and a rare opportunity to plunder his unparalleled knowledge.
Rob will be followed by a presentation from MHSG member Jeremy Gibb (pictured left) on Ripple Energy, a trailblazing renewable energy cooperative, that offers shares in solar and wind farms and the chance to own your own low-cost, green energy.
As one such impressed investor, Jeremy will share his experiences and advise on future projects, which can amount to 25% savings on electricity bills and 1,434kg of CO2 saved per household each year, Ripple claim.
“I invested in Ripple’s first and second projects in 2021 and 2022,” says Gibb, as they release their fourth wind farm project, “and so far my share of generation has been over 15,000 Kilowatt Hours, with savings of £2,600.”
“My goal”, he says, is for my house to be fully electric and for all the electricity used to be directly covered by renewables.” And he is well on the way, with both a solar thermal and solar photovoltaic system installed; and plans to replace a gas boiler with a heat pump next on the agenda.
Jeremy’s Muswell Hill home will be open for booked tours as part of MHSG’s Green Open Homes annual event (9th, 10th, 16th and 17th November), when ten energy efficient local homes – from retrofits to new builds – are opened up for guided tours by the hosts, hoping to inspire and educate more people to reduce their carbon emissions and their energy bills along the way. Booking will be available through the MHSG website Events page from July 2024.
As with all MHSG speaker meetings, EVERYONE is welcome, entry is FREE and NO BOOKING is required. Just rock on up.
And … there are REFRESHMENTS and the chance for a chat afterwards!
For those that still can’t make it, however, the talks will be uploaded onto our YouTube channel after the event.
