Grow your own veg this spring

If you’re growing your own vegetables, May is the month when we think about planting vegetable seedlings outside in the ground or in containers.

The weather has been unseasonably cold and windy this spring, so it is important to prepare seedlings before you plant out.

Gradual introduction to an outdoor sheltered space is important to strengthen their roots to cope with wind and cooler temperatures at night.

If you buy vegetable seedlings from a garden centre don’t be in a hurry to plant them out until the danger of frost has gone at the end of the month. Potting them up first is the best plan.
