On 23rd May Michael Jacobs gave an excellent talk entitled “No time for pessimism – an overview of global climate science, economics and politics – see Climate talk slide presentation v2-2. He started off by setting out the reasons for gloom and doom such as the depressing fact that we’ve hit 400 ppm of CO2 (450 ppm is the level when scientists think a 2 degree temperature rise is unavoidable). But he offered hope in the fact that decarbonisation is now being taken seriously in Europe and that China has finally agreed to cap it’s emissions. Furthermore Green is now mainstream – big businesses are lobbying for the 2030 decarbonisation limit and there are huge investments in green technology. We will shortly be uploading Michael’s slides.
